- 1 pound ziti pasta
- 2 tablespoons olive oil
- 1 onion, chopped
- 2 cloves garlic, minced
- 1 pound ground beef or Italian sausage
- 2 cups marinara sauce
- 2 cups ricotta cheese
- 2 cups shredded mozzarella cheese
- 1 cup grated Parmesan cheese
- 1 teaspoon Italian seasoning
- Salt and pepper to taste
- Fresh basil for garnish (optional)
Instructions
- Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C).
- Cook the ziti pasta according to package instructions until al dente, then drain.
- Heat the olive oil over medium heat in a large skillet. Add the chopped onion and garlic, sauté until translucent.
- Add the ground beef or sausage, cooking until browned. Drain excess fat.
- Stir in the marinara sauce and Italian seasoning, bringing to a simmer. Cook for an additional 5 minutes.
- Combine the cooked pasta, meat sauce, ricotta, and half of the mozzarella cheese in a large bowl.
- Transfer the mixture to a greased baking dish, top with remaining mozzarella and grated Parmesan.
- Cover with foil and bake for 20 minutes.
- Remove foil and bake for an additional 10-15 minutes until cheese is melted and bubbly.
- Let it cool for a few minutes, garnish with fresh basil if desired, and serve.
Notes
This dish can be customized with various meats and cheeses. It keeps well in the refrigerator for up to 4-5 days and can be frozen for up to 3 months.
