Description

This delicious Traditional Irish Soda Bread is quick and easy, perfect for any night of the week. Customize with raisins or seeds for added flavor.


Ingredients

  • 3 ½ cups unbleached all-purpose flour
  • 3/4 teaspoon kosher salt
  • 3/4 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1 ½ cups buttermilk

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 450°F (230°C) and line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
  2. In a large mixing bowl, whisk together the flour, salt, and baking soda until combined.
  3. Create a well in the center of the dry mixture.
  4. Pour the buttermilk into the well and gently stir the ingredients together until shaggy.
  5. Lightly flour the work surface, knead the dough gently about four times and form it into a round loaf.
  6. Place the loaf on the baking sheet, sprinkle the top with flour, and score a large X on top with a knife.
  7. Bake the loaf for 15 minutes at 450°F, then reduce to 400°F (200°C) and continue baking for another 25-30 minutes.
  8. Cool for at least 20 minutes before serving.

Notes

Serve warm with Kerrygold Salted Butter for an extra treat. Store leftovers wrapped in a kitchen towel or in an airtight container for 2-3 days.
