A delightful and simple Matcha Cake that comes together in about 30 minutes, perfect for any occasion.

- 2 cups all-purpose flour
- 1 ½ cups granulated sugar
- ½ cup matcha green tea powder
- 1 cup whole milk
- ½ cup vegetable oil
- 3 large eggs
- 1 tablespoon baking powder
- ¼ teaspoon salt
- 1 tablespoon vanilla extract
- ½ cup butter, softened (for optional frosting)
- Powdered sugar (to taste, for optional frosting)
- Milk or cream (to taste, for optional frosting)
Instructions
- Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C).
- Grease and flour two 9-inch round cake pans.
- In a large bowl, sift together flour, sugar, matcha powder, baking powder, and salt.
- In another bowl, whisk together the milk, vegetable oil, eggs, and vanilla extract until well combined.
- Gradually pour the wet ingredients into the dry mixture, stirring until smooth.
- Pour the batter evenly into the prepared cake pans.
- Bake for 25-30 minutes or until a toothpick inserted comes out clean.
- Remove from the oven and cool in the pans for 15-20 minutes before transferring to wire racks to cool completely.
- If using frosting, beat butter with powdered sugar and a splash of milk or cream until smooth.
- Once cooled, assemble the cake by layering the cakes with frosting, and frosting the top and sides if desired.
- Optional: Dust with additional matcha powder or powdered sugar before serving.
Notes
This cake is customizable; swap matcha for cocoa powder or different tea blends to suit your taste.
